How often do you wait in a waiting room?
Maybe you’re at the dentist, the doctor’s office, physical therapy, or a meeting with an insurance salesman as well as others. Some of those “waits” can be longer than others. Yes, you can busy yourself with a few magazines that may be provided.
Several years ago I seemed to have more appointments than usual. I recall the minutes beginning to add up to hours for some of my important doctor and specialist’s visits. I had read most or all of the magazines available.
Then, it occurred to me that this might be a good time to pray. Yes, that’s right.
Pray. I could pray for other patients who were waiting, too.
As I began to pray for the other patients, I considered that some may be about to get unwanted news, and others may be about to endure a painful or unpleasant procedure. Whatever the need might be, as I began to pray for the other patients sitting around me, I lost track of the time.
Next thing I knew, my name was called and I quickly finished my visit’s business. I felt lifted up by praying for the other patients in the rooms where I’d previously been bored and grew restless with impatience.
Think about it: the next time you have to stop, pause, and “Wait,” consider those around you who may need your prayers.
