As I wash dishes today, my mind steps through the needs of family members and friends. One family member is traveling, another is waiting to hear about a new job offer, and another’s husband has been recently admitted to a rehabilitation facility after surgery. I whisper short prayers for each one as I rinse the dishes.
Next I want to say prayers for each grandchild; all are different ages ranging from two months to sixteen years. Each one has very different needs and is at unique stages of their young lives. Each one needs specific prayers because the youngest one will be crawling and teething soon enough, and the oldest one is driving, and takes more difficult subjects in her high school classes.
I step back and look at the clean, shiny dishes, but realize I’m not done with my prayers:
Who else needs prayer?
Who is in need of being uplifted spiritually?
Are there unspoken needs I should whisper, and ask the Holy Spirit to fill in the words I don’t have at the moment?
What about my writer friends? Do they need inspiration to fill their manuscripts?
The dishes are drying now and I will retreat to a quieter space, to pause, to listen, and to allow the Holy Spirit to speak to me privately.
As peace fills my soul, I am quieted within and without.
I am thankful for moments like these, to pause, to ponder, and to draw near to my Father in Heaven.
