grew up in the beautiful historic city of St. Augustine, Florida. The beautiful Atlantic shoreline was less than a half mile from her home, and she could ride her bike to the St. Augustine Lighthouse.
Her parents and grandparents often spoke about a famous author, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, known for “The Yearling” and “Cross Creek.” Her father had delivered newspapers to Ms. Rawlings as a ten year old boy in the 1930’s.
Then as an eleven year old girl who loved stories, Sally asked her parents, “Can I be a writer someday?”
Their response was, “Yes, of course you can!”
That was all she needed to hear, and she began to pen stories, poems, and scribble of all kinds, and stuffed them in her desk drawer.
As a college senior ten years later, she published her first story, “The Girl with Almost Everything,” in “Decision” magazine.
